Handmade Redwood Surfboard
Dennis Murphy's Redwood Surfboard
Dennis Murphy dropped by the studio to show off a nine-foot redwood surfboard he'd made - by hand - from an abandoned nineteenth-century water tank. I wouldn't let him leave until I'd shot a dozen frames. This is how surfboards were made in the 1930s: hand shaped and spar varnished. The redwood was chambered so the board weighed in at about 35 pounds.
